Junior Division Exhibitors*PLEASE READ*FACE to FACE Judging InformationNow that you have finished your projects, chosen your exhibits, and completed your entry form, it's time to think about the fair and Judging Day. Many Junior Departments will be judged in the face-to-face style. The following will help answer questions you may have about Judging Day. Face-to-Face discussion is a chance for the youth to receive comments (both good and what can be improved) from the judges. Youth also gain interviewing skills and confidence speaking through the experience. Schedule:This following departments will be judged on Thurday, starting at 2:00 p.m. ending at 5:00 p.m. No exhibits will be accepted past 4:30 p.m. Exhibitors should come early enough to ensure finishing before 5:00 p.m.
How will it work? Judges will be stationed at tables in the Exhibit Hall. A sign at each table will indicate which departments are judged by each judge. Exhibitors will stand in the appropriate lines for their exhibits to be judged. After the face-to-face discussion takes place, Explorers and Cloverbuds will receive their ribbons. All other exhibitor entries will be sorted by the department Superintendents and Clerks. At 5:00 p.m., the judge will look at each Lot of exhibits and determine placing and issue ribbons.
How long will I talk with the judge face-to-face? Each exhibit will take about 3 minutes. If you have more then one exhibit, you will have more time with the judge. You may have to wait in line and, if so, get to know your neighbor.
What might the judge ask? "Tell me how you made or cared for your project." "How did you get the idea." "What did you learn as you did the project." "What would you do differently next time." "What did you enjoy the most in completing your exhibit?""What was the most difficult part of completing your exhibit?"
Question: Can a parent or leader help me talk about my exhibit? Answer: NO! Parents and leaders must stand back from the table and will not be allowed to participate in the conversation.
Q: Do I need to bring anything other then my exhibit? A: Be sure to secure your entry tags to your exhibits and any necessary requirements. Ex: Some exhibits require an explanation card describing the exhibit.
What if I can't come Judging Day? PLEASE try to attend. You will learn a great deal by discussing your projects with the judges. If there are special, unavoidable circumstances that make it impossible for you to attend the judging day, you may send your exhibits to the fair with a friend. BUT, you are encouraged to write a note for the judge, responding to the sample questions above, and attaching it to your project's entry tag. If an entry arrives without a write-up, the exhibit will still be judged, but it will recieve a automatic drop of one placing. If an exhibit is dropped off and has a write-up answering the sample questions, it will not be penalized a ribbon placing. |
